Carnival’s private island, RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, is one of the most beautiful beach days in the Bahamas. But for travelers who use a wheelchair, scooter, or walker, the big question isn’t “How pretty is it?” It’s “Can I actually get around?”

The good news: much of the island is accessible, as long as you know where to go. Not every tram stop is created equal, and choosing the right one can make the difference between a frustrating day and a relaxing one. Here’s what you need to know before you step off the ship.

Getting From the Pier: Accessible Trams

Wheelchair-accessible trams pick guests up at the pier and bring them to the Entrance Plaza. There’s no long walk down the pier in the Bahamian heat to worry about.

From the Entrance Plaza, you’ll board the universal tram, which runs to each of the island’s stops. Just tell the driver which stop you’re heading to.

Advisor tip: Tram lines are longest right after the ship clears. If you can wait 20 to 30 minutes, you’ll usually have a shorter, more comfortable ride.

The Entrance Plaza: Fully Accessible

The Entrance Plaza is your home base, and every area here is fully accessible. You’ll find:

Tram Stop by Tram Stop

The short version: Guava is the best stop for accessibility. Here’s how each one compares.

Mango Stop

Mango is home to the Orchid Bar & Grill, one of the island’s two lunch spots. Unfortunately, this area is not very accessible. Pathways are limited, which can make moving around with a wheelchair or scooter difficult.

Lime Stop

Lime is very limited for accessibility. There are no accessible cabanas and no accessible beach access. The bright spot: beach wheelchairs are available at the tram stop, so guests who can transfer can still get onto the sand.

Guava Stop (Our Top Pick)

Guava is the better choice for accessibility. Lunch is served at the Hibiscus Bar & Grill, which has wheelchair-accessible tables. Guava also has accessible family restrooms with a baby changing table, a big help for caregivers and families traveling together.

Avocado Stop

Avocado is the farthest stop from the Entrance Plaza and the least crowded. The trade-off is the water. This stretch of beach sits along the reef and has the strongest current on the island, so it’s best suited to strong swimmers. If anyone in your group isn’t confident in the water, choose a different stop.

Where to Eat Lunch

Lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at two locations:

If you’re staying at Lime or Avocado, plan your tram ride to Guava around the lunch window so you don’t miss it.

Heads Up: Your CHEERS! Package Stays on the Ship

Carnival’s CHEERS! beverage package does not work on RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay. Carnival’s own package terms exclude drinks purchased at Half Moon Cay, Celebration Key, and Princess Cays (Carnival CHEERS! details).

Any drinks you buy on the island are charged to your Sail & Sign account at regular prices. Budget for it, and bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated in the sun.

The island drink menu: beers run $8.75 and cocktails $12.50, none covered by CHEERS!
